The bill in this case alleges facts which call to the attention of the court the following situation:

A tax collector of Rome, Maine, collected automobile excise taxes from a number of inhabitants of the town, for a period of five years, and did not pay the same over to the town. The money thus lawfully exacted from automobile owners has been diverted to the private use *202of the collector. The town has been deprived of funds which should have been available for municipal purposes. The taxpayers and inhabitants have correspondingly suffered.
