Following a bench trial, Michael Austin was convicted of three counts of attempted first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/8 — 4, 9 — 1 (West 1992)), three counts of armed violence (720 ILCS 5/33A — 2, 12 — 4(a) (West 1992)), and three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm (720 ILCS 5/12 — 4.2(a)(1) (West 1992)). Austin was sentenced to three consecutive 30-year terms to be served consecutively with a 120-year sentence from a prior conviction in the case of People v.
