In May 2003, plaintiff Bill White was acquitted of first-degree murder charges after spending five years in jail. Charges against co-plaintiffs Otis English and Roland Gray, who also spent five years in jail awaiting trial, were dismissed. Plaintiffs filed suit against the City of Chicago; Cook County; several Chicago police officers; Richard A. Devine, the Cook County State’s Attorney; and John Murphy, an assistant State’s Attorney, alleging that they concealed information that would have exonerated plaintiffs.
