These two race-discrimination lawsuits are now before the court on a motion to stay filed in Reynolds v. Alabama Department of Transportation, civil action no. 85-T-665-N, on September 4, 1997, by defendants Alabama Department of Transportation, Alabama State Personnel Department and several State officials. 1 The issue presented is whether, as defendants contend, the impending resumption of trial, now set for September 15, 1997, should be stayed pending this court’s resolution of their motion, filed on August 27, 1997, to dismiss plaintiffs’…
