NEIGHBORS, Justice.
Pursuant to C.A.R. 21, we issued a rule to show cause to the respondents and simultaneously granted certiorari to review the Colorado Court of Appeals’ dismissal of the petitioners’ appeal.1 People v. Vargas, 679 P.2d 1088 (Colo.App.1983). We elected to proceed in this fashion so that we could clarify the procedures available to court-appointed attorneys who seek appellate review of adverse orders concerning their fees under the payment scheme presently in effect.
