DECISION

BLOMMERS, Judge:

Before a general court-martial with members, the appellant, contrary to his pleas, was found guilty of the attempted premeditated murder of his wife in violation of Article 80, UCMJ, 10 U.S.C. § 880.1 His sentence, as adjudged and approved, extends to a dishonorable discharge, confinement for ten years, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and reduction to airman basic (E — 1). The principal issue raised before us is framed by appellate counsel as follows:
