On June 13, 1957, at about 10:50 p.m., the defendant was driving a 1956 Ford convertible on Allen Street in the City of Waterloo. He was accompanied by a girl friend, Laurel Wilson, who was riding in the right-hand side of the front seat, and by Arden Dempewolf and his fianceé, Eyvonne Warneke, who were in the rear seat. There is evidence from which the jury could have found that as the vehicle approached the intersection of Allen Street with Fifth Street *438it w^s being driven at from 45 to 50 miles per hour.
