{¶ 1} This case arises from the murder of 18-year-old Verena Davis by defendant-appellant, Gregory Walker, on June 1, 2005. Davis and several friends had spent the afternoon riding around with Walker in his "shiny, nice truck." Davis and Walker began arguing, however, when Walker refused to take her to pick up dinner from a take-out restaurant. Davis got out of the truck, spit on it, ripped its license plate cover off, and walked away. Walker then got out of his truck, pulled a gun from his left pocket, and shot Davis in the head.
