I. Introduction

Appellant Bobby Jude Lopez was charged in a two-count indictment with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841, and possession of ammunition by a previously convicted felon, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). Before trial, Lopez moved to suppress the evidence recovered from a search of his person and his car. Lopez argued the evidence was the fruit of an unlawful detention.
