The plaintiff in error was indicted, at a special term of the Circuit Court held in Polk county in July, A. D. 1884, for the murder of "William McLaughlin in September, A. I). 1880. He was tided at the same term, and convicted of murder in the first degree, but recommended by the jury to the mercy of the court, and was sentenced to imprisonment in the State Penitentiary at hard labor for the term of his natural life.
