In this case, we consider whether the ineffective assistance of defendant’s trial counsel in failing to seek the introduction into evidence of cell phone records that would have undermined the complainant’s credibility prejudiced defendant, thereby entitling him to a new trial. The Court of Appeals held that, even assuming that defense counsel’s performance fell below an objective standard of reasonableness, defendant had failed to show resulting prejudice. For the reasons stated in this opinion, we disagree and instead hold that defense counsel’s ineffective assistance prejudiced defendant.…
