MYRON H. THOMPSON, Chief Judge.

In these two long-standing class-action lawsuits, officers in the Police Department of the City of Montgomery, Alabama seek redress for the department’s sexually and racially discriminatory employment practices. The defendants to this litigation are the City of Montgomery and its mayor and police chief. This litigation is based on Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, 42 U.S.C.A. §§ 2000e through 2000e-17, and on the equal protection clause of the fourteenth amendment to the United States Constitution as enforced through 42…
