An indictment presented in May 1957, by the grand jury of Los Angeles County accused “Jane Doe (Charlene) female Negro, 39 years, 5'7", weight 165 pounds, olive complexion” with three counts of unlawfully selling heroin on March 14, 18, and 19, 1957. By virtue of the indict ment Charlene E. Erving was arrested in April 1959. On April 27, 1959, when defendant was present in court, the indictment was amended to state that the true name of the defendant is Charlene E. Erving. She was arraigned on May 11, 1959.
