In 2009, J.S.W. (“the mother”) gave birth to C.M.P. (“the child”). Although the mother was not married when she gave birth to the child, it is undisputed that J.L.P. (“the father”) is the father of the child. In 2013, the State of Alabama, acting on behalf of the mother, filed a petition in the Cullman District Court seeking a judgment ordering the father to pay child support for the child.
