OPINION

In October 2007, defendant, Gregory J. Chester, was indicted on three counts of aggravated battery (720 ILCS 5/12—4(a), (b)(6) (West 2006)) and one count of resisting a peace officer (720 ILCS 5/31—1(a—7) (West 2006)). Following a jury trial, defendant was convicted and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for aggravated battery (McLean County case No. 07—CF—1069) with the sentence to run consecutive to defendant’s sentences in McLean County case No. 07—CF—797 of 5 years’ imprisonment for obstructing justice and 364…
