The plaintiffs, Wayne Prowell and John Prowell, appeal from an order of the circuit court of Cook County granting summary judgment to the defendant, the City of Chicago (the City).

On June 10, 1999, the plaintiffs filed their first amended complaint against Loretto Hospital and the City. In the complaint, the plaintiffs alleged that on June 24, 1997, Essie Prowell, the plaintiffs’ mother, was transported to Loretto Hospital by ambulance.
