Defendant, Henry Lee Carter, was charged by indictment on May 31, 1988, in the circuit court of Jackson County with the offense of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. A warrant was served on Carter on June 1, 1988, in the Williamson County jail, where he was being held by Federal authorities on a parole violation. Carter was found to be in violation of the terms of his parole on June 15, 1988, and sentenced to an additional 16 months’ imprisonment.
