OPINION

WECHSLER, Chief Judge.

{1} Appellant Carlo A. Roybal (Redeemer) appeals the district court’s award of $10,638.35 to Charles L. Reule (Purchaser) to reimburse Purchaser for improvements made to property that was acquired at a foreclosure sale. We hold that the “betterment statute,” NMSA 1978, §§ 42-4-17 to 42^-18 (1953), permits such an award and affirm.
