I was designated to conduct the trial in this suit brought by Douglas Grimes, a defeated candidate for the Democratic nomination for Judge of the City Court of Gary, Indiana, and two voters in the primary against Charles Graddick and others, alleging that by putting up a same-name candidate (defendant John A. Grimes) in another race the defendants conspired to defraud the plaintiffs of their constitutional rights to participate in electoral politics, in violation of 42 U.S.C. §§ 1983 and 1985.
