Mr.. Justice Whittaker

delivered the opinion of the Court;

Respondents were indicted'for murder in the- District Court for the District of Columbia, and- upon a trial were found guilty by a jury of the lesser included offense of manslaughter. After their motions for a new trial were considered and denied, the court entered judgment of conviction on May 7, 1958. Twenty-one days thereafter, on May 28, respondents separately filed in the District Court their notices of appeal.
