One Fielding, who was deputy commissioner of a city department of Brooklyn, was indicted and tried for having knowingly approved a false claim against the city. On the trial the defendant was a witness for the People and is charged with having then falsely testified that he did not remember, having had any conversations with Fielding in reference to matters material to the issue then being tried. The indictment sets out the alleged false testimony in detail and negatives the truth of such testimony in every particular. I do not- deem it necessary to here point out the…
