Following a jury trial, the defendant, 17-year-old Bryan D. Case, was found guilty of first degree murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 9 — 1(a)(2)). He was sentenced to a term of natural life imprisonment. The defendant appeals, and we affirm.

The evidence tended to establish that the body of the 15-year-old victim, Christy Doyle, the defendant’s first cousin, was discovered on her bedroom floor by her brother, Wade Doyle, about 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 1990. Christy had stab and slash wounds to her neck and upper body. Her purse and its spilled contents were found on the hallway…
