This was an action on the case, brought by Edmund A. Flynn, against the Chicago and Western Indiana Eailroad Company and the Belt Eailway Company of Chicago, to recover damages for a personal injury. The plaintiff, at the time of his injury, was a locomotive engineer in the employ of the defendant railway companies, and was engaged in running a locomotive engine drawing a train of freight cars, in a southerly direction, over the “Belt railway,” a line of railway extending from South Chicago to Cragin, a point at the north of the city, a distance of seventeen and one-half miles, and…
