This was an action brought by the plaintiffs against the defendant as a common carrier, for the loss of góods received by him for ti’ansportation from Augusta to Cartersville. On the trial of the case in the Court below, the jury found a verdict for the plaintiffs. The Court granted a new trial, which is now assigned for error here. The receipt given by the *40agent of the Company ón the 4th of September, 1865, is in the following words: “Received of J.
