On October 31, 1978, petitioner was indicted, under C.G.S. § 53a-54a(a), 1 for the murder of Michael Aranow. After a twenty-six day trial and a week of deliberation, on August 13,1979, the jury acquitted petitioner of murder under C.G.S. § 53a-54a(a) and convicted him of manslaughter in the first degree under C.G.S. § 53a-55(a)(2). 2 As recounted by the Con necticut Supreme Court, the jury could reasonably have found that “some unexplained emotion or circumstance,…
