The Catholic Society of Religious and Literary Education, a corporation organized under the laws of Louisiana, brought two suits in equity in the District Court, one against the county of Madison, N. G, and the other against the town of Hot Springs, N. G, relative to taxes imposed upon certain properties of the society by the respective municipalities. It claimed in each suit that the properties were used for religious, charitable, and benevolent purposes, and were therefore exempt from taxation under the Constitution and laws of the state.
