This is a case about insurance coverage. Douglas Ramsey’s house was destroyed by fire. Douglas inherited the house from his father, Ralph Ramsey, upon Ralph’s death. During his life, Ralph had maintained a homeowner’s insurance policy on the house with Allstate Insurance Company. After the fire, Allstate denied Douglas coverage because the insurance policy was not in Douglas’s name at the time of the fire; rather, the policy was still in Ralph’s name.
