Today the court must determine whether appellant Juan Quintero is entitled to a new trial based on his counsel’s- actual conflicts of interest. Convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child as part of a plea-bargain agreement with the State, appellant asserts his retained counsel rendered ineffective assistance because the conflicts colored counsel’s actions. At the heart of the appeal is appellant’s contention that counsel advised appellant to plead “guilty” while laboring under actual conflicts of interest.
