Thompson, Jr., appeals from a judgment of the circuit court of Cook County which made a distribution of the parties’ marital property under the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 40, pars. 101-802), which became effective October 1, 1977. On September 30,1977, petitioner, Janet P.
