1Opinion of the Court

MOORE, Judge.

These appeals arise from a judgment following an ore tenus proceeding in which the Russell County Juvenile Court concluded that A.H., a minor child, was “dependent,” pursuant to § 12-15-1, Ala.Code 1975. Based on that finding, the trial court awarded custody of A.H. to C.H. J.W. appeals from the judgment awarding *116C.H. custody of A.H.; C.H. cross-appeals from the trial court’s earlier ruling, in which the trial court adjudicated J.W. to be the biological father of A.H.
