Plaintiff, Lavonda Brand, sued Boatmen’s Bank of Cape Girardeau, Boatmen’s Life Insurance Co. and an employee of the bank seeking to recover approximately $4500 due under a credit life insurance policy, interest and damages for vexatious refusal to pay pursuant to § 375.420 RSMo 1986. Plaintiff also sought punitive damages from Boatmen’s Life Insurance Company and James Reinagel, the employee defendant.
