On Sunday, March 12, 1978, at about 7:00 P.M., defendant and four other individuals entered the arraignment part of the Bronx Criminal Court. Defendant, carrying a large attaché case resembling a suitcase, sat down in the rear of the courtroom and placed the case on his lap. He was immediately recognized by the two court officers on duty, Adler and Villanueva, as well as by the Assistant District Attorney, all of whom remembered him from earlier incidents in or around the courthouse.
