The defendant, Darrel W. Mullinax, was charged on August 17,1977, with three counts of attempted murder in violation of section 8 — 4 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 8 — 4), one count of arson in violation of section 20 — 1 of the Code (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 20 — 1), and one count of assault in violation of section 12 — 1 of the Code (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 12 — 1).
