¶ 1. A jury sitting in Hinds County found Marvin Berry guilty of possession of cocaine. Berry was sentenced as a habitual offender and received a life sentence without the benefit of parole or early release. Subsequently, Berry filed a motion for a new trial and/or a judgment notwithstanding the verdict.
