POSNER, Circuit Judge.
These two applications seek permission to appeal an order that “involves a controlling question of law as to which there is substantial ground for difference of opin ion.” 28 U.S.C. § 1292(b). The case out of which they arise is a civil rights suit that began in 1987. On January 29 of this year the district court denied a motion by several defendants to dismiss them from the case.
