delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant was convicted of the offense of theft of property with a value in excess of $150 upon his plea of guilty. A sentence of not less than three nor more than ten years in the Illinois State Penitentiary was imposed. In this direct appeal the defendant contends that the trial court accepted the plea of guilty without first ascertaining a factual basis for the plea and that the court did not advise the defendant that he had a right to plead not guilty as required by Supreme Court Rule 402(a) (3).
