J. W. Adams was indicted for murder in the first degree, charged to have been committed by killing J. W. Collum by shooting him, in Miller County, Arkansas. He was tried and convicted of murder in the second degree, his punishment being fixed by the jury at five years in the State Penitentiary.

It appears from the record that J. W. Adams owned a farm in Miller County, Ark., and rented about forty acres of it to J. W. Collum for the year 1922. Collum and his three boys were working the land. The killing resulted from a controversy between the parties about three or four acres of this land.…
