The petitioner, Luiz Carlos Vaz dos Reis, a Brazilian national, seeks judicial review of an order of the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), which affirmed the denial by an immigration judge (IJ) of his motion to reopen removal proceedings. The petitioner asserts that he did not receive notice of a scheduled hearing before the IJ; that the IJ erred by refusing to rescind the ensuing in absentia removal order and reopen his case; and that the BIA compounded the error by improvidently upholding the IJ’s order.
