The issues raised by the facts in this case focus sharply on one of the most recurring problems facing labor management relations in the United States today — -the loss of pension benefits by hundreds of thousands of American workers after many years of reliance and expectations of security after retirement. Instances of lost pension benefits caused by plant closings, business cessations, lay-offs and other factors beyond the control of the employee are of disturbing proportions.
