JOHNSON, Presiding Judge.

A jury found Jason Eugene Abercrombie guilty of possession of methamphetamine. On appeal, Abercrombie claims, among other things, that the trial court erred in failing to perform the required balancing test pursuant to OCGA § 24-9-84.1 (a) (2) prior to permitting the state to impeach him with his prior conviction for entering an automobile. We agree, and we therefore reverse Aber-crombie’s conviction and remand the case for a new trial.
