In each of these actions, the plaintiff claims damages of the defendants, for the neglect to furnish him with proper and suitable food, provisions, care, and treatment, during a voyage on the ship Earl Granville, upon which he shipped as an able-bodied seaman. The defendants contend that, although the master of the ship may be liable for such negligence, the owners are not responsible.
