These appeals call upon us to descend once more into the belly of a beast previously (and accurately) described as a “litigatory monster.” In re Recticel Foam Corp., 859 F.2d 1000, 1001 (1st Cir.1988). On this occasion, we are involved less with the litigants than with their champions.
