HEANEY, Circuit Judge.

John W. (Jack) Waterman appeals from the district court’s denial of his motion to vacate, set aside, or correct his sentence under 28 U.S.C. § 2255 (1982). Waterman claims that an agreement between the government and the star prosecution witness against him irreparably tainted that witness’ testimony, depriving Waterman of the fundamental fairness protected by the United States Constitution. We hold that the government’s agreement with its key witness hampered the truth-finding function of the jury to a degree which cannot be reconciled with the fair procedures…
