The controversy is over the construction of Paragraph 7 of the will of Abraham Fletcher. This paragraph provided as follows:

[‘Seventh. I will to William H. Fletcher, my son, and Frederickey, his wife, during their natural lifetime and then to their child/ren after their death [description].”

This controversy is concentrated upon the two particular words “their children.”
