About the year 1872 the Holy Family Congregation, an unincorporated association, located in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, was created as a Roman Catholic national parish for parishioners speaking German. It was under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Church and subject to its church canons and discipline. Buildings were erected consisting of a church, a parochial school, a convent and a rectory.
