Plaintiff brings this suit against the defendant, American Railway Express Company, to recover the value of a diamond ring which it is alleged was delivered to defendant to be shipped to George T. Brodnax, Incorporated, of Memphis, Tenn. In order that the issue involved may be understood, it is necessary to refer at length to the pleadings.

The plaintiff alleged that on June 19, 1925, she delivered to the agent of the said express company, at Campti, La., two diamond rings of the value of $430, paying the value and express charges as required, and that she received a receipt from the agent.…
