In February 2011, the Alabama Education Association (AEA), a public-sector union, and related parties filed a 42 U.S.C. § 1983 lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Alabama Act No. 2010-761 (codified at Ala.Code § 17-17-5) (Act 761).
