Carson Davis was tried by a jury and convicted of escape. He was sentenced to serve four years, eleven months and fifteen days in confinement, consecutive to any sentence he was then serving, and fined $2,500. In response to Davis’s petition for writ of habeas corpus, the habeas court granted him an out-of-time appeal. Davis claims that the trial court created confusion during the trial about whether he was being represented by his appointed counsel or was proceeding pro se; that his appointed counsel was ineffective or, alternatively, that the trial court erred by requiring him…
