For more than sixty years the Illinois Central Rail-, road Company has maintained an elevated bridge over and across its track on a public street of the city of Oxford passing through the campus of the state university.

This bridge, which is considerably narrower than the street, is one hundred fifty feet in length. There is a deep cut at this point, and the elevation of the bridge is in excess of fifty feet above the tracks of the railroad.
