On October 3,1932, plaintiff leased certain premises for use as a store from defendants for a period of five years from November 1, 1932. The contract of lease contained the following provision:
“If the lessee desires to renew the lease upon the premises herein described, the said lessee shall, on or before the 1st day of May, 1937, notify the lessor in writing, by registered mail, of his intent to request the renewal of a lease upon the premises described, and shall state the amount of rental the said lessee is desirous of paying for the premises described for an additional period of five…
